How does chiropractic work?

Chiropractic helps to restore postural imbalances, misalignments or normal function to joints that may not be working correctly. These small problems can irritate the surrounding nerves and tissues causing big symptoms. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. By restoring spinal function with specific chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference by misaligned vertebrae is removed, thus allowing optimal nervous system function and improving your body's natural healing mechanisms.

Who should see a Chiropractor?

Seeing a chiropractor is not only for back pain and neck pain. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to keep your body functioning at it's highest level. Most people come in for pain relief, increased performance (physical or mental/emotional, or to prevent further injury and/or deterioration.

What is Subluxation?

When a vertebrae moves out of its normal position or becomes restrcited and doesn't move properly, this is referred to in the chiropractic profession as a vertebral subluxation complex, or subluxation. Subluxations can be caused by a wide range of issues ranging from macro-traumas, like car accidents or sports injuries, or repeated micro-traumas, such as poor posture, years of desk work, or mechanical breakdown from repetitive activities. When a vertebrae is subluxated, it can put pressure on the surrounding nerves, blood vessels and tissues, leading to compromised communication to and from the brain, inflammation and, in some cases, pain.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is an overall way of looking at the human body. It's based on the idea that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing, if the brain is able to properly communicate with the different tissues and individual cells brain through its connection via the spinal cord and the vast networks of nerves. When the spinal cord or spinal nerves are impinged, or irritated, the nervous system is not functioning at its best which impacts the nerve signals being sent to and from the brain. Chiropractors assess for subluxations, or areas of the spine which could lead to this compromised system, and work to restore normal joint position and/or function to improve neurological function.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

Adjustments, or manipulation as they're sometimes referred to, is the restoration of movement to the compromised spinal vertebrae. The objective of this movement is to either realign vertebrae that have moved out of place or to restore movement to a restricted joint.

An adjustment is often a pressure or impulse from the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to move the joint. This happens with a quick movement and is often without discomfort.
